THCA, short for tetrahydrocannabinolic acid, is the acid form of THC that is found in raw cannabis and hemp. This guide explains what THCA is, how it differs from THC, which THCA products Canapuff offers as flower, vapes and hash, and what to know about the legal situation.
What is THCA?
THCA is a cannabinoid that the plant produces in its fresh, unheated flowers. In raw plant material, most of the later THC is still present as THCA. Chemically, THCA carries an extra acid group (a carboxyl group). This group makes the molecule larger, and in this form THCA binds only weakly to the CB1 receptor.
THCA and THC: what heat changes
When THCA is heated, it loses its acid group and becomes THC. This process is called decarboxylation. Research has shown that the conversion depends on temperature and time (Wang et al., 2016). This is the main reason why THCA is discussed so much in a legal context: a product that contains THCA can turn into THC when it is heated. How long THCA can be detected is covered in our article How long does THCA stay in your system?
THCA products at Canapuff
Canapuff offers THCA in three formats. The cannabinoid and the percentage are always part of the product name:
- THCA Flowers with 99% THCA, the Monkey series, for example Monkey Glue, Jungle Monkey and Atomic Monkey.
- THCA Vapes with 99% THCA in 1 ml pens, for example Atomic Monkey and Jungle Monkey.
- THCA Hash in several pack sizes.
All THCA products are collected on one page in our THCA collection.
THCA flower vs THCA vape: the formats compared
THCA flower and THCA vapes contain the same cannabinoid, but they are different products:
| Feature | THCA flower | THCA vape |
|---|---|---|
| Form | Dried whole hemp flower | THCA extract in a pre-filled device |
| Content | 99% THCA | 99% THCA |
| Size | Different pack sizes in grams | 1 ml per device |
| Strain names | Monkey series | Monkey series |
Flower is a whole-plant product. A vape contains a concentrated extract in a ready device. Which format you choose is a question of the product type you prefer, not of the cannabinoid.
THCA legal situation
The legal treatment of THCA is different from country to country. Some countries look only at the THC content of the raw product, others also count THCA because it can become THC. For this reason, THCA products are not available in every country. Which products you can order depends on your delivery country. Always check the current rules where you live before you order. This is general information, not legal advice.
How to store THCA products
Store THCA flower and THCA hash in a closed, airtight container, in a dry and dark place away from heat. Store vapes upright at room temperature and away from direct sunlight. Keep all products where children and pets cannot reach them. All products are for adults over 18 only. A lab report (COA) is available on request.
